But Charlene this BlocktrustIRA would be fine were it not for one thing - capital gains tax. Every single Bitcoin purchase you must recalculate your cost basis, and every single Bitcoin sale you must calculate your capital gain and adjust your cost basis. You will need the exact transcript of all the trades the AI program has done. And you will need to be keeping an eye on that pretty much all the time, as crypto moves volatilely and 24-7. This is not a short amount of work and its ongoing. CGT rules are complex. An accountant will bill per hour fairly expensively so there's that to factor too. I was surprised Johnathan did not mention CGT - in UK this is 18% and 28%. I searched "tax" on his FAQ on his web URL and it comes up with no results. If the AI does all CGT accounting for you then this will all have to be painstakingly edited if you also hold Bitcoin outside the IRA. We need to all be campaigning for abolition of CGT on Bitcoin as a matter of urgency, as RFK has said - it is blocking adoption. But otherwise great guest, and an interesting conversation.
